The interest groups listed below have been formed to give members the opportunity to get to know each other and participate in an activity they enjoy. The groups are fluid and change as demand requires. To register in these groups, contact the group co-ordinator at one of our monthly club meetings or send us an e-mail.
Current interest groups
Book Club: This group meets the third Tuesday of each month at members' homes, to discuss the book of the month. |
Creative Writing: This group meets the fourth Thursday of each month at members' homes. The aim is to provide a forum for members to share their writing and to receive feedback. |
Cycling/Hiking/Snowshoeing: Most Sundays, the group sets off on bikes, foot, or snowshoes (depending on the season), at about 10:30. The planned outings last two to four hours and usually include lunch at a favourite eating place. All fitness levels are invited to participate. |
Cycling, off road: Members meet on Wednesday mornings to ride trails that are almost without motor traffic (e.g. Rails to Trails, or dykelands). The rides are in the range of 10 to 25 kilometers. In the colder seasons, it is the group's intention to continue, at a moderate pace, outdoor activities such as walking and snowshoeing. |
Dining-out/entertainment: Members of this group take turns organizing a get together at a local restaurant or entertainment venue. The facilitator books the venue and advises the members of the location, time and cost. Members then make their own reservations and pay directly. This is a great opportunity for singles and couples to get to know one another. |
Gourmet/Dining-in: If you enjoy cooking and like to experiment with a variety of ethnic foods, this is the group for you. Dinners take place approximately once a month on Friday, Saturday or Sunday at the homes of members. Members (singles and couples) prepare a dish that will complement the meal's theme, and ensure it is ready to be presented at the appropriate time during the meal. Members also bring wine, or a beverage of their choice. |
Quilting: Join this group and learn the traditional craft of quilting. Machine and hand quilting techniques will be taught including individual and group projects. All levels of experience are encouraged to attend. |
Wine tasting: This group meets monthly at members' homes. The host decides upon a wine theme and the others contribute a bottle. This is an excellent way to taste a selection of different wines and learn more about them. The group has not been active but we hope that will soon change. |
